Romeo & Juliet - December 2016

Our latest production is right around the corner, revisiting the dystopian future of our 2014 production of Julius Caesar, we will be presenting Shakespeare's arguably most famous play.

In the year 2065, after a devastating World War, most of mainland Europe has been destroyed, but Britain, after closing off its borders has escaped the carnage. In the years following the war, Britain has begun to expand, taking control of various territories throughout Europe.

Lord Capulet, a British government official, accompanied by his family and a cohort of the British Military, have taken control of Verona, bringing some stability to an anarchic society and its surviving citizens.

A small band of Veronese, however, disagree with the Capulets' somewhat dictatorial way of ruling, and have chosen to rebel, led by Montague, a young man who grew up on the streets of Verona, stealing and scavenging to survive.

From within these two warring factions, a pair of star-crossed lovers meet, and a hope begins to grow that through their love, their families' strife can be brought to a peaceful end.

Don't Hate The Players Theatre Company present Shakespeare's timeless tale of tragedy and forbidden love, brought to life with a chilling, post apocalyptic twist in the atmospheric New Road Baptist Church in Oxford.
