Actor's Code of Conduct

At Don't Hate the Players we hold ourselves to a very hgh standard. As such we have composed a code of conduct that all of our actors must agree to.

 

 

The following applies if you are working as an actor in a Don’t Hate The Player’s Theatre Company production, or if you are working on a job that we have found for you.

 

 

Hours of Work-

- Your hours of work will be at the needs of the company to be able to deliver the level of competency for the theatre productions to run.

- You will be required to work these hours at such times/in such shifts as are reasonably required by Don’t Hate the Players Theatre Company and as are notified to you.

- You will also be required to work a certain amount of overtime when the needs of the business require it. No additional payment will be made for overtime.

 

 

Place of Work-

- Your normal place of work is at the discretion of the Artistic Director.

- You may be required to work at any of the businesses other sites which include: These will be disclosed to the employee by the Artistic Director, or anyone acting on behalf of the Artistic Director.

- You are not expected to work outside the UK. Any possibility of opportunities outside the UK will be negotiated as they arise.

 

 

Absences-

- If you are absent from work for any reason including sickness or injury, you (or someone on your behalf) must inform Kieran Donnelly or Marcus Davis-Orrom as soon as possible and by no later than 12 noon on the first day of absence of the reason for and likely duration of your absence.

- If your absence lasts for seven calendar days you must keep Kieran or Marcus regularly informed of your absence and likely duration of your absence.

- Any absence that is not approved by the company's admin or of a nature that can be avoided (to a satisfactory level left to the admin's discretion) will result in loss of wages.

- If an actor resigns their position within a month of the rehearsal process beginning or a performance legal action may be taken to reclaim losses made to the company and fellow actors.

- Absences from rehearsal must be reported no less than 48 hours before the incident if not covered by any of the above.

 

 

We shall have the right to terminate your employment immediately without notice or (in our sole discretion) payment in lieu of notice if you:

- Are guilty of any gross default or misconduct in connection with or affecting the business.

- Commit a serious or persistent breach or non-observance of your obligations to us or fail to perform your duties to our required standards.

- Conduct yourself dishonestly or in a way which is detrimental to the business (whether in connection with your employment or otherwise).

- Bring the name or reputation of the business into disrepute by your actions or inaction or prejudice the interests of the business.

- Are convicted of any offence (other than a motoring offence not resulting in imprisonment)

- Become of unsound mind or a patient under mental health legislation in force at that time.

- If you have completed the first month of employment the parties shall give 4 weeks' notice of termination of employment provided that that this is more than the minimum statutory notice period applicable to you.- Notice of termination of employment given by either party shall be in writing.- We may, in our sole and absolute discretion, terminate your employment at any time and with immediate effect by paying a sum in lieu of notice equal to your salary (as at the date of termination) which you would have been entitled to receive between the date of termination and the earliest date your employment could otherwise lawfully have been terminated.

 

 

Any grievance relating to your employment should be raised with Kieran in writing If you are dissatisfied with a decision relating to a disciplinary, dismissal or grievance matter, you should appeal in writing within 3 days of the decision to Kieran.

 

You agree not to book any events that may clash with the agreed upon schedule. This includes holidays and work. This does not apply to events booked before any agreements are made.

 

- You agree to regularly check the modes of communication that the company may use to contact you in relation to the production. This includes, but is not limited to, email, phone, post and the dedicated Facebook group.

- The call time for each show is at the discretion of the director. You agree to be there and ready to perform at this time. At times you may be asked to come earlier to help set up.

- Actors must be willing to wear the attire chosen for them by the director. Adding to their costume or not obeying the wishes of the director may result in loss of wages or dismissal.

- Alterations to your appearance must be agreed upon with the director. This includes; visible piercings, tattoos, hair style/length/ colour, cosmetic alterations.

- Actors may negotiate any decisions made about their character but the final decision belongs to the director.

- Any actors that come to rehearsals or performances under the influence of any narcotics or mind altering substances will lose wages and possibly face dismissal. This includes the after effects intoxication from a previous event.

- Any damage made to company property or the property of venues in use by the company must be paid for by those responsible unless it is agreed upon that nothing could be done to prevent it. Any costume or props damaged beyond the point that they can be used must be replaced by those responsible.
